I am about to purchase a netbook but there are multiple posts from some recent netbook expo about netbooks with nvidia ion +optimus coming out in "june 2010" that will make it 10x faster with better graphics. Is this true? should I wait? or will I just always be waiting for the next best thing and should just buy a netbook now?

Thanks

This platform will make things like watching HD video, video decoding, etc... faster, in theory. It also allows for shifting between say on board graphics like an intel GMA to the dedicated ion graphics seamlessly, again, in theory. Below is a link for info on it. In regard to the release date, the stories I'm seeing show that netbooks equipped with it should be out any time now. I guess you can keep an eye out if you can wait a bit longer.

I would wait. I own two netbooks and they are really slow. Had to remove antivirus and tweak just to run 720p video.

Personally, i would get an ultralight, same or better battery life, useful processing power, and lighter.

Ultralights tend to be slower because they use ultra low voltage CPU's. It gives them great battery life at the expense of processor speed.

One other advantage is that ultra-lights usually have a built-in optical drive.
