it just seems like Netflix's CEO got really really extremely lucky, because all the other decisions he's been making lately just suck!!!

[citation][nom]otimus[/nom]...The content holders are just flat out going to kill streaming video. It's NOT netflix's fault.[/citation]

The content holders are definitely a major problem, yes. But Netflix still handled things in about as horrible a fashion as you could think of. If they simply stated why they needed to raise prices, it would've helped a lot. And if they had a small increase in price across the board, I would be paying them more money instead of dropping to streaming only and paying them less. It's a good sign that they're backing off of Quickster, but really? As evidenced by Hasting's responses to comments on the Netflix blog, they hadn't even thought about how splitting the services would affect the queue and searching for movies. I just don't get it.

@Luscious:

This guy SHOULD NOT be in the CEO chair - he needs to be playing with toy trains. Investors aren't stupid. If I had even a dollar in Netflix stock I would be demanding this guys ass be served on a platter.

I beg to differ. It can actually take quite a bit of planning and forethought to play with toy trains.

Why does a CEO care about his company? All he cares about is his quarterly bonus and that's it. If he runs the company into the ground. So what, he is still making money.

His salary is already guaranteed and when he is relieved or fired, he gets a very nice severance package.

Wow, some of you people must be cheap.

Price go UP - it's a fact of life. And again, I will say this - this is ONLY for the bottom tier of service, the 1 DVD plan (with 1 streaming allowed at a time). My plan didn't go up one bit. The last time it went up was a few years ago - maybe even 5 years - it's been a while. But I accept it, because costs go up.

The breakup into two was stupid, since they would've had to create a whole NEW service online, doubling all their troubles.

Just signed back up with Blockbuster's mail service after leaving Netflix. I'm assuming that Blockbuster will eventually muck it up like they did before when they changed their plans a few years back. I tried Redbox for a while, but their damn droid app is always locking up and you have to wait in line for the people that don't reserve online. I think it is good that we have all of this competion. Hopefully it keeps cost low for entertainment. Too bad going to the movies is so expensive these days.

Better management of their costs would have suggested more of a gradual increase in pricing and they wouldn't have run off a large portionof their business.

All of their thinking came way too late. Since I’m subscribed to DISH Network the Blockbuster Movie Pass was the perfect replacement. The entire Blockbuster collection of 100,000 DVD movies, TV shows and games available by mail and in-store is open to me. I get streaming of 3,000 movies to my TV and 4,000 movies to my PC, plus 20 premium entertainment movie channels with the Pass. Although I work for DISH, I still realize that this is much more entertainment that I couldn’t get anywhere else.
