New battery won't charge.

So my Toshiba battery had run down to the point where it would only last 30-40 minutes when plugged out.

I replaced the battery and now it won't turn on at all. The laptop works fine plugged in with the old battery or plugged in without any battery at all but the new one will not charge. I turned it on with no battery in and put in the new battery and it now says 'no battery is detected".
The battery is definitely the correct model and the charger was replaced only last year.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

sound like the new battery is bad, RMA it.

Thats what I thought, went back to the shop and they gave me a second brand new one.
