New computer scan??

I just bought a pc on eBay that was built by the seller and comes preloaded with Windows 7. Just for my own assurance, besides running an antivirus program, are there other things that I should check or do to ensure nothing was included with the pc that could be a threat? Is it possible for something to be embedded physically into the computer or into the OS that an av scanner won't see?

Before powering it on, open it up and check for loose cables & parts, esp the cpu cooler - make sure its still down nice and snug.

Make sure windows activates successfully.

Run antivirus, malwarebytes from safe mode after updating or run an antivirus/anti-rootkit from a bootable dvd
run Hijack this and see if anything is running that shouldnt be...

Check harddrive & ssd SMART checks to make sure they dont have a ton of hours or other problems.
