New HD Tv Aspect ratio question.

I download plenty of TV eps as i miss them when iam at work. Anyway i
mostly convert them to 16/9 VCD or SVCD using Procoder.


If they are 16/9 they should fill the whole screen the original files
are 16/9 format.

Just somthing i would like to know as i want to use the WHOLE SCREEN


I know i have read that sometimes their are bars on the left right and
top bottom not sure why.

If your TV is 16:9 (HDTV widescreen), then the 16:9 content will "fill
the screen".

If the content is cinema widescreen (sometimes 2.35:1, or 2.15:1) then
you will have slight black bars on the top and bottom.

If the content is 4:3 (Academy ratio, like standard NTSC TV), then you
will have bars on the sides.

Just think about scaling the rectangle of the content to the maximum
size without distorting the image.

What I get on my TV from stations that are broadcasting HD is quite often
a pillar-boxed copy of a letter-boxed SD feed of a 16:9 image.
Fortunately, it is mostly commercials that they do this to, but it is
annoying. If I can convert a letter-box image to DVD format, I can
display it full-screen from my DVD player, which has EZView (it will take
a letter-box image and stretch it to anamorphic and send it to the TV
which I can set to display it in the correct aspect ratio).

But the result is only DVD quality, and not even the full resolution of
that. The true anamorphic DVD movies are a bit better.

I'm not familiar with Procoder, so you might want to check the software
options there. There may be some way to stretch them.
