The Asus you linked to is a good choice for basic functions but there are a few other laptops you may want to check out (that are in your price range) before you make a decision. The Dell Studio 15 has a really nice sized screen in case you will want to watch movies on your laptop. It also has optional Intel® Core™ i7 Mobile Processors. Another option is the Acer Aspire AS7740-5691. It is only $649 and has smart Intel Core i3 processing and a very large screen (17.3 inches).

Can you provide any more insight into what you may be using your laptop for? I can definitely give some more suggestions.
