Hi there, having a little problem with a relatives new laptop. She just bought a Toshiba Satellite C850-1KN running Windows 8.
The first day was fine; did setup and installed basic programs.
However the next day it ended up in a repair loop saying "Toshiba is searching for a solution..etc" and then restarting.
And now when we turn on the computer it comes up with a black screen saying "Check media" followed by "fail" after a few seconds. And then it says "No bootable devices"
I don't really know how to proceed. My thinking is that it can't recognise the HDD. I can get into the BIOS but that's about it.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks kindly

I have found a solution to this issue, go to F2 bios setup and navigate to advance option and scroll down to system configuration, click enter and you are gonna see boot mode, change the option to CSM instead of the default UEFI boot mode, press F10 to save and exit and hurray, your system will work fine.

It works for me!!! Thanks a lot!!! Muchas gracias, funciono de maravilla!!

Just had this problem, it work by changing it to CSM, but also had to change Sata to compatibility for it to read my rom. Thank you everyone for all the info.

Thank you. IT worked for me.

Hi! This is my first post seeking online help and hope it's the right thread. The above is similar to my Windows 10 Toshiba L55W-C. It's had "quirks" since purchase and should've been returned within Costco's 90-day's. Having lost my sweet mom and job left me "off". Sorry for going off topic, just hoping it's an easy fix as resources are limited. I'm also a bit tech inept. I tried the YouTube fixes and some of the aforementioned suggestions, to no avail. My laptop was fine all day, but non-responsive to the usual key tap start when returning home. I thought it'd been unplugged, but when I attempted to power on, I got the error message "NO BOOTABLE DEVICES, PLEASE RESTART SYSTEM". Unlike most of the other posts, mine says nothing about media and has no disc drive. I was finally able to bring up the "Setup Utility". In "Advanced", I can't change "Boot Mode" as its frozen in "<UEFI Boot>" mode. I'm nervous to blindly troubleshoot, so any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Elizabeth

Thanks, I failed a partition on my laptop where it led to "check media fail" and then "no bootable devices", but now I fixed it with your instruction + usb boot(window 7 installation).
