New laptops: basic requirements

2 days ago, I bought a new laptop at Mediamarkt.
I assumed I bought one with an Intel core i7 (quad) processor, 16gb RAM, and 512 GB SSD.
But apparently I mixed up the boxes in the shop and bought one with an i5 processor, 8gb RAM and 256 GB SSD (no HDD).

Now I'm wondering: a 256 GB SSD.
Windows already takes about 25 GB.
Next you need to install the applications like Visual Studio (for development) which in its turn takes about 60 GB.
Also take into account that general applications (like MS office) take more space than 15 years ago.
And off course you need space for your files (photos, videos).

256 GB are through quiet rapidly.
But why do they still produce SSD's of 256 GB, if it's too less capacity for today's requirements?
An SSD-256GB costs 103 €.
An SSD-512GB costs 173 €.

If they would stop producing 256GB's, and focus on producing 512GB's, this price can drop to around 130 €.
What's the big deal of this?

It's because there are users like me who are satisfied with 128gb ssd.

you dun like it, just swap it.

Just return the laptop mediamarkt accepts fysical returns when you have a somewhat decent excuse. Just say I bought it as a gift but confused the pc's and got the wrong one.

256 is a happy medium for desktop users that have a larger storage drive as well.

I agree it isn't enough to be the sole drive in most laptops, but I've got 2 in laptops (one in work computer, one in a personal one), as well as a 512 in my main laptop. Definitely enough space if you don't have music, tons of photos, or tons of games installed on it.
