I do 75% pics and 25% camcorder, I am looking for a good 4or5 meg camera with 640x480 movie w/audio. I use it for the kids, and my Canon S30 does 10fps video, which is not good but we use it as i only want to carry one camera...what would be the best for around 400.00? More than 3x optical would be nice. I like the S1 from Canon but it is only 3.2 megs....help pls :).

How many MP do you want? A 3.2 will let you print 8.5"x11".

*Dual PIII-800 @900 i440BX and Tualeron 1.2 @1.7 i815*

Don't be fooled by the 3.2 MP and look at what you gain from this camera. It has the Zoom with image stabilization. you have the VGA Video mode 640x480 at 30fps. and you are right in the price range you want if your talking US $ that is. In Canada is goes for $ 589.95

The quality of the lens makes up for MP. You will be happy with the 8x10 prints this camera will make and I dare say you may even be happy with a 11x14 photo from it. If you can, see if you can get your hands on one take a memory card with you and shoot some shots with it in a store if need be and print something out at the largest size you plan on making. This way you can determine if the quality is good enough for you. Remember the Higher the MP the larger you can print.

I hope this helps.

This is a bit late. A couple of months at that. But if anyone is interested. The S1 IS is the perfect choice for digital camera and camcorder. Takes great video during the day. I have one. The only things that I would add is to get a 4 GB Hitachi Microdrive which is what I have to take video at the highest resolution.
