This will happen to Facebook as well. Social media will go away when there is a new interface...a better, more safer/user friendly interface.

If Facebook users cared about privacy it wouldn't be as popular as it is. Facebook definitely is nothing but a fad right now, I'd be surprised if it isn't anything more than a joke in 5 years, (kinda like how we are now ripping on myspace).
The only reason Facebook has held on for so long is they have done a good job at integrating with websites to make it easier for people to avoid signing up to multiple websites, now we can just log in with our facebook account. But I'm sure Google will find a way to do that and much more and do it better....then we'll all be on whatever Google's social network is, or whatever other company/programmer comes up with.

You can't make something like facebook any more safe (maybe on a code level as far as their security goes). But it's usually you're average joe/jane that get themselves into trouble. Just like anything else (open wifi routers, etc..). Then they bitch and whine when people find out their info that THEY posted.
Now facebook could just be a fad, but until somebody does it better it's gonna be around. Also remember you're not the center of the universe just because you don't like something doesn't mean it sucks for everybody.

Myspace was a dying/dead website anyway and won't be a loss to anybody if they sell it.
In fact anybody who buy's it better have a trick up their sleeve or be planning to sell their server hardware.

On the Google issue. I notice increasingly, more and more services being administered from one Google account, in particular You Tube. To complicate matters, you can register a Google account via a non-Google email.
All this is supposed to bolster security, whilst (as you stated better than I could), integrating a lot more functionality into a single account. I think that on the security front, registering several websites from one account is the worst thing you can actually do. All it takes is someone to compromise the main account, and they have access to all your domains, all your interests, all your emails, private messages, pictures..the lot. It makes it much easier for an unknown entity or entities to both monitor and control what you do on the Internet. Try registering a YT account without using Google..try logging into YT without being reminded of needing a Google account first.
I accept Google recently owned the rights to YT, but this whole centralized approach does make me wonder what will happen when more and more of our data is stored in this manner, especially given the influence some of these private interests have on public policy. Sure, it's cool to log into one portal and have be kept-up-to-date with whatever takes your fancy, but in the wrong hands it's a dangerous tool.

Why isn't MySpace doing so good? Does it offer most if not all the services other social networking environments offer? It's got feeds, right? It's a place to meet other people and keep up-to-date with what's going on in their world..I'm just wondering why a lot of people prefer Twitter.
Maybe it's the general trend these days, of people using something not so much because it's actually useful, entertaining or educational, but because well, everyone else is using it. I get lots of friend requests for facebook and Twitter, but to be honest, most of the time I can't be bothered especially given the privacy and security issue. There seems to be an abundance of people (as on MySpace), who's only purpose in life is to look and sound trendy, sell themselves in the name of corporatism and use you as advertising space under the guise of genuine friendship. I noticed the same happening on YT the moment certain video's got above a high hit count..out they come from the woodwork, reeling off the same messages they were sending to others.
Basically what I am saying is, maybe there isn't too much that's wrong with MySpace that can't be fixed. Maybe it's just people becoming bored with it and looking for the next 'fix'..and corporations with insane amounts of marketing revenue able to tap into their subconscious in order to create sales and agendas, much the same way the Obama administration did to get him in office. If that's the case the FB will go the same way as the rest.

I remember when MySpace was big and Facebook was brand new, Facebook was actually known as a site more for college students (mainly ivy leaguers) than it was for the general public. It was seen as more grown-up (almost a junior LinkedIn if you will).
Of course, Facebook adds Farmville and all the sudden everyone realizes Facebook is for them. "Facebook isn't just about sharing your educational preferences, it can be fun and exciting too!" people would tell themselves. MySpace quickly became just a sight where underage girls and pornstars post provocative pictures of themselves, and fell to the wayside (plus the fact that 99% of Myspace pages are so over-burdened with Javascript that they won't run on any computer, no matter how powerful).
Eventually the next big site will come around. People will stop bugging me about how I don't have a Facebook or Twitter account. Instead, they'll insist that I absolutely must get a Twizzelgabrug account, and that I'm a luddite or fool if I don't. And if you do get such an account, you'll be spammed with messages of people begging you to prune their rose-bushes in the latest FlowerTown game. Tom's Guide will have give-aways where you have to log in to Twizzelgabrug AND Fleemob, checkmark the BestBuddy icon, and then post in the forum.
It's all bull-crap. These sites (most of the internet actually) are just there so people can busy themselves. I enjoy the internet too, but what bugs me is how powerful these sites are becoming. Maybe I don't want to Facebook or Twitter, guess what, there are literally millions of other websites I can check-out. And since my entire life isn't tied up in any single one, when they all eventually fall to the wayside, it won't be that much of a loss really.
