Solved! no sound on tv when streaming films from a laptop

hi i play films via a laptop to a tv vid hd cable i carnt increase the volume sound on the tv so have to be very quiet and hear via the laptop never happened before im stuck appreciate any help

Well if you can't turn up the TV's volume then whatever player App you are using must allow sending the audio to somewhere else like your headphone jack. VLC comes to mind but I have minimum experience with it. Your version of Windows may/no allow manual selection of audio output.
