no space after buying sd card / how do I use my sd card

just bought sd card and my email is threaten 7 gb and my g mail is closeing everyday

Why does my phone keep saying running out of space when I have a 8g memory card and I only have like five games up loaded do I not have it turned on to store my app. In it plz help
