Hi,

I'm working on an Acer Aspire One D255-2256.

I just replaced the battery for it (the old one no longer holds a charge)

When I have both the battery and the AC adapter plugged in, the computer just runs straight off of battery power with no signs of recognizing the AC adapter.
(The light indicating the computer is charging is not illuminated and Windows says its running off of battery power)

The computer runs fine off of the AC adapter without the battery plugged in.

When I plug in the old battery the computer's charging light is illuminated and the computer can power up (running off of the AC adapter with the dead battery).

The computer will charge the new battery if I plug the AC adapter in first, and then plug the new battery in. However I ran this overnight and I don't think it ever stopped charging the battery despite it being full. (Unplugged the AC adapter, started up Windows and detected the battery level)

I currently have Windows 7 on the machine.

I think the problem is similar to this post, but the hardware is different and I don't know where to start. http://www.tomsguide.com/answers/id-1961708/laptop-power-adapter-charge-battery.html

Thanks in advance

Here is a genuine one... http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/262762611421?lpid=82&chn=ps&ul_noapp=true .. just showing not suggesting. It seems used. :) Note on the far right of the laptop where the ones you sent me to are blank there, but this one shows that it is actually an Acer battery.

Not saying the one you got isn't new, but I don't think it is OEM, but aftermarket.

If your laptop is still under warranty, you could try seeing if the manufacturer will give you a deal on a battery, if not replace for free. Can't hurt to check. :)
Did you by any chance buy an aftermarket battery for the new one? If that is the case, it may well be your problem. Sadly while aftermarket parts are great for many things, they aren't for laptop batteries and charger cords.

If this is the case, I would really suggest you return it, get your money back, and get an OEM battery.

I don't think so.

I ordered the 7800 mAh one from http://www.laptopbatteryhq.com/acer-al10a31-laptop-battery.html

It looked new when I got it, but I could contact them and ask for a replacement if you think its worth a shot
