Just recently my dad got a new phone with my help. New phone is Motorola G Power 2024. Old Phone was Samsung Galaxy A15 5g. Got new phone up and running, transferred sim card from old phone to new phone, using US Mobile service. Same service used on old and new phone. Looks like all contacts showed up on new phone instantly but not a single text message from old phone showed up. Not the most tech savvy when it comes to stuff like this. On the old phone, in the text messages app, he was signed into his google account. So thinking that once I signed into same google account on new phone, the text messages would show up but they didn't. Also thought they would have been tied to sim card as well. But maybe it can only be tied to either google account or sim card and not both? Did a live chat with US Mobile and basically all they said was give it time and maybe they will show up. But that has been days now and still nothing.

Is there still a way to get all the texts from old phone to new phone? Still have the old phone with all the texts, haven't done anything with old phone as far as removing accounts or anything. Would like to see if I can get the texts on new phone before I do anything like that. For the future if/when he has to switch phones again, what exactly is the process for getting the texts to transfer to new phone? Should the google account be signed out of on old phone before removing and transferring the sim card? Is this more of a issue that needs to be taken up with US Mobile or more of a google issue? Is this something I am doing wrong?

EDIT 1: I found there is a program called SMS backup and restore. Not familiar with this but looks like what I need to do. But one concern I have is the new phone already has new texts. Will the new texts stay after using SMS backup and restore to transfer the texts from old phone?

The new and old texts should co-exist since they are time stamped. Transferring should be safe, in that regard.

When you setup the new phone, was there an option to transfer info from a previous phone? That process should have taken care of the text message, pictures, etc transfer.

Even if there is new text from same number as old text?

I didn't give it no thought at the time but the phone was already setup. Is it normal for a new phone to be setup already? It was new and unlocked from amazon

Yes.

Somebody set the phone up. Was it you or your dad? If not, a factory reset should be performed.

Do either of you have the account login info currently on the phone?

Neither of us set the phone up. It was already setup when he got it. Just now realizing, even before coming here, a factory reset should be performed. Kind of stinks, already got the phone setup with accounts added and what not. So if I was to do a factory reset now, would all his contacts and current texts disappear?

When you say account login info, are you talking about dad's google account or what came on the phone?

The reason I ask is because during a factory reset, you'll be asked for the previous account info.

If you guys received a phone already setup, I would be concerned and, if me, I would try resetting the phone itself.
