One-Pedal Design Aims to End Car Crashing Woes

The only way to substantialy minimize car accidents is to take ALL control out of human hands and start using already existing technology, like car-2-car and car-2-infrastructure communications, neighbour detection systems with automatic speed regulation or vehicle convoy management.
6 years ago (still in colleage) I heard, studied and worked with several of these technologies, and many of them are already mature enough to commercialize; the problem is with the lack of interoperability between car manufacturers. There are no standards agreed upon, so each one implements the technology their own way.

How the hell do you "hit" the wrong pedal? I've been driving for 25 years and I can tell you that I know what each pedal is used for and know where it's located. Unbelievable...an invention for something that does'nt need it.

Let me tell you a story, while not one that would affect most cars. I was taking a course called Car Control Clinic, mostly driving on a skidpad (very slick circle with sprinklers to make it more slippery). I already had experience in the Formula Dodge (a very, very low-end Formula car) and was driving one on the pad. I'm 6'1" and they didn't set the pedals far enough away. In my first skid, I actually could not get on the brake without also flooring the gas - almost took out another car on the sidelines before I took my right foot out, steered into the skid, and killed the engine.
If I'd had a little more training it might have occurred to me to use the clutch.
But anyways, that's "how the hell" I once hit the wrong pedal.

I drive a standard truck and a standard sports car. How do people who just have to deal with two pedals not know which one to push??? If you can't deal with two pedals, don't drive.

Because when you are in an emergency situation, you will mash your foot to the floor, as a bracing motion. You may not have it over the correct pedal. Brillant idea, having different motions for accelerate and braking.

I call bullshit jabliese. I don't think they should make driving cars easier or harder. I just think people should have real training instead of being like jab and just pushing down because they panic.

Best way to do this find an empty parking lot with snow, ice, or even rain *pavement can get nice and slick after a nice rain*. And have some fun. While doing so you will learn how to react when you car goes into a spin.

Now to learn what peddle to push.. Will that's a little harder and would help to have a real course which I think should be mandatory.

If anything, the single pedal would be great for those with disabilities (one leg). Never stifle innovation. Anything that could have a use will be used for something, and as new things are invented people will decide their best applications.

Do you guys really thing you're supposed to drive with both feet (if you have them) in an automatic. If so, please give me your phone number so I can call to find out if you're on the road before I get going.

FYI - One foot operation is the correct and safe method. That way when you "OH SHIT" you don't brace against the brake and gas at the same time.

In most cases...even when it is the car, it's still the person.... Toyota's "automatic acceleration" issue..did anything ever consider just turning the damn car off?????

Hook up a console controller instead of the steering wheel. Lots of experience for new drivers with this method, and no way to really mess up accidentally.
