I have an Onkyo HT-RC460-1, a few years ago I sent it back to Onkyo for repair as the unit completely stopped sending video via HDMI but was still sending sound. They repaired it out of warrenty for just shipping costs.

recently it has started an odd behavior. while watching video from the PC or Cable box the audio and video will cut out for about 3-5 seconds then come back on. The unit does not turn off or show any signs of resetting, but the TV reacts as though the receiver has turned fully off.

It happens only when watching movies or streaming video from the PC or watching things from the DVR, not live cable.

I truely hope it is not the receiver dying after 10 years, i kinda like it and know all it's quirks.

Solution
Since it happens with more than one source the receiver HDMI switching is likely to be the problem. Onkyo has had some HDMI issues due to bad ICs. That's why it was repaired out of warranty before.
If the digital inputs on the receiver still work OK you could change your hookup so that all the sources go to the TV directly and the audio out of the TV goes to the receiver.
