Just built my first PC and I was prompted by my MoBo Driver disc to install free 60 day trial of Norton. I've had bad experiences with Norton and the never ending pop-up telling me to renew.

What are your guy's thoughts on software? paid and free

Bitdefender FREE is great and light.

The best anti-virus and anti-malware is you not clicking/going where you shouldn't. After that, I like what's light, non-invasive and relatively cheap. I use webroot secureanywhere this year(meh) along with MalwarebytesPRO, Spybot free, SpywareBlaster and Hitman Pro as a back-up cleaner.

I forgot about BitDefender..lol

Whatever you so, don't get PCMatic... I hear it's awful.

if you need something a bit "heavy" check out Comodo software. Their Internet Security package features a pretty dank antivirus and firewall, all completely free.

No, that is where I post various good deals , Norton's whole lineup was recoded a few years back and is very good.

My FREE list link has plenty of great options.

Technically, you don't need anything more than what ships with Windows. 99% of the malware and viruses are a result of the user doing something the user should not have done.

Of course I understand that you shouldn't go to certain sites or open certain emails, but I just feel better with a safety net. If I'm running an SSD and an HDD my OS is on my SSD, that's where I would download the drivers right? What about anti-virus software? SSD or HDD?
