Optical Audio Cable

Right I'm trying to get my PC to connect to my HD TV via DVI TO HDMI, this works without any flaws and now i know that DVI doesn't transfer sound over so i've bought an optical audio cable to connect to them both, but I'm not getting any sound, any suggestions?

99% chance the opti jack on the tv is an output only. Go 3.5mm from your sound card to two RCA jacks on the tv. HDMI number 1 should have a pair of RCA's designated for its use.
