OS for hp compaq nc6400?

Hi, I know it's very old laptop with dual core, 1 gb of ram ddr2, and integrated graphics, small hdd, but for some peoples it will be good, for browsing internet, watch movies online, listen music, check fb, and etc. simply tasks. I will think reinstall xp, but I see it have more and more problems, year by year, with support of browsers, antivirus, software, drivers, etc. So I wanna ask, what os will be lightest, and best for that old machine, support of drivers, and software? I don't wanna invest to extra ram, and ssd. I know it will improve performance, but don't know how much...

look at the Linux distros. there are some very simple ones.

Ubuntu or Mint seem most popular.

old weak hardware, but no hardware upgrade, and you want newer(free?) os? no linux? is that all?

If you want an OS for little or no cost and Linux is not an option, then reinstall Windows XP. Otherwise, you will need to spend money to buy a new OS.

Well, I have windows starter, that comes with newer netbook dell inspiron mini, but it was useless, with intel atom cpu Maybe try that one, laptop old but have dual core? Maybe there is option update to windows 10?

There is no option to upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 10. The free upgrade to Win 10 is only for Win 7 and Win 8.

I still use my nc6400 increased to 4gb ram, 120gb ssd, Ubuntu 17.04. Runs buttersmooth.
