I have an HP 8530w Elitebook that is only about 6 months old.

Windows 7 Pro 32bit
Core Duo T9400 2.53GHz
2 gigs RAM
NVIDIA Quadro FX 770M

The computer seems to run hot at all times but when I try to use the HDMI Out or try to play anything remotely taxing like the Starcraft 2 beta it overheats to the point where it shuts down.

Because of the graphics related causes i thought it was the graphics card, but I updated the drivers with no luck.

Any ideas?

Yeah, those numbers are way too high for idle/light loads. That means you CPU is running around 70 C and your GPU is up around 90 C.

A few things:
1) are you using your laptop on a flat surface that doesn't block the fan ports?
2) Are your fans actually running?
3) Are the fans clogged with dust? (dust is a huge killer for laptops)

if it is under warranty use it and make hp look into it they will replace all faulty parts

you can try blowing air through the air vents through a pressurised can and check temp again to see if any changes are there

but still do send it to hp as hp laptops have poor cooling and parts such as fan heatsink may have been damaged
