Panasonic toughbook cf-48 disassembly help needed

I'm trying to get at the pcmcia slots in a cf-48 toughbook to remove a
foreign object that has been lodged in the pins. I have taken all of
the screws out of the bottom of the laptop, but it just won't separate.
I've removed the cd drive as well. I can see 2 screws that are on the
topside right under the LCD, but I see no way of getting at these
screws without taking the LCD casing apart(even then, I'm not sure if
that's how you get at those 2 screws).

Could someone please let me know the trick of getting this thing apart?

Nevermind...........couldn't wait any longer on a reply. I figured it
out If anyone ever needs to know how to do it just ask!

You need to remove the keyboard and there are some more screws there.
Also make sure you remove the screws that are coverec by the rubber
footings. There are also more screws were the hard drive is at. I
just took one apart just for fun about a month ago. Hope this helps.

Hi guys,
Thanks for the posts! For whatever reason though, the messages didn't
appear until just now (I'm using google groups for NGs).

Anyway, the person who mentioned the speaker grill was correct.... you
need to fold the LCD almost flat back parallel to the work surface,
then unlatch the hinge cover latches on the back and CAREFULLY pop the
front(closest to keyboard top)edge of the grill cover out. There are 3
tabs on the front part. After that, you remove some screws on the
metal part that the actual speakers are mounted in, lift the keyboard &
disconnect the 2 flat wire cables. Depending on what you're doing &
how far you're taking it apart you can remove the 4 screws that
actually hold the LCD hinges to the case/housing, disconnect the LCD
connectors and set it aside. THEN you will have access to the 2 screws
that were beneath the LCD. Now the whole plastic top piece will come
off(don't miss the screw on the bottom directly under the IDE cable).

I did remove the object from the PCMCIA slot and everything went well!
If anyone has any other questions just ask but realize that the posts
seem to be updated only once a day here(google groups), so my reply may

The plastic escutcheon-speaker grille (above the keyboard) snaps
in with (as I recall from long ago so no guarantee) very small
fragile looking snaps at the bottom corners and somewhere along
the top. Then, the keyboard can be removed. There may be
screws for that underneath too; I can't recollect.

And, taking the unit apart further may well entail removing the
LCD display-lid which has hinge springs to watch out for. It
didn't look simple at all. Good luck and be careful of the LCD
panel cable which ran very close to the metal chassis..
