Pc to lcd tv

hey folks i need some much needed help / advice.

i recently purchased a DVI-I to HDMI cable, on the basis of reassurances by the seller that this would indeed also play sound through the cable. ive hooked it up today and guess what a picture but no sound, ive tried messing around with it, with no luck and cant seem to find much info after seaching. so looking for you whizz kids to help 😀

my specs are as follows (i use the onboard motherboard audio);

intel core i7 920
asus p6t
xfx 275 gtx

A DVD-I cable does NOT support audio, it's video only.

If your video card has an HDMI port, you can check in the BIOS whether you have a switch to route the sound to that port. You'd need to get an HDMI/HDMI cable.
