PC to TV sound

I have a Graphics card with DVI. I use a DVI Male to HDMI Female apater then a HDMI cable to the TV. Can i get sound from this?

Before i used a DVI to HDMI Cable and got sound, but not now. why?

Some DVI to HDMI adapters don't carry sound. It has something to do with the HDMI people requiring a license for every HDMI port.
