What can you do... manufacturers have the right to set their price.

Consumers have the right to not buy them. :) Now that BluRay manufacturers have a single "winning" HD standard they can either work with the marketplace or else they can watch their format die as users turn to online and digital distribution.

Sony wants to milk off the royalty from the bd-dvd manufacturers and since they have invested millions (or even billions) shoving this standard to our faces. Meanwhile, this BD-rom will probably die because people figure out that you can store stuff in usb drives and hard drives on mp4 format.

Yeah, I for one will never buy a BD drive until it's:
1) Less than $150 AU
2) Fully Recordable & reliable
3) Recordable media price is less than $4 AU for 25GB blank

I'm using USB sticks for transient storage & ESata/USB2 HDD's for more permanent storage... HDD is cheap & FAST & more reliable!!!

If they don't drop the price soon, people may just skip the whole debacle.
