Im well aware of everybodys opinion on alienware computers. But from what people have told me their laptops are actually good buys. Wether thats true or not, Im not sure. But basically im trying to decide between the m14x and m17x.

Heres the m14x

Id get the 1,299 one.

And heres the m17x

http://www.dell.com/ca/p/alienware-m17x-r4/fs

Id get the 1,499 one.

Would the m17x still perform better with 2 GBs less RAM, and 1 GB more video memory?

And if alienware is still *** for laptops, anyone wanna point me in the direction of a better buy in that 1,200 - 1,500 range?

I would get the M17X because it has an improved GPU, a better screen to game on and an i7. You shouldn't be able to use 8GB of ram ever anyways so that's not an issue. If you ever want to upgrade your ram you can do that too for much cheaper.
The new 6xx series of laptop GPU also offer an nice increase in performance over the old 5xx models.
5xx- http://www.geforce.com/hardware/notebook-gpus/geforce-gtx-560m/performance
6xx- http://www.geforce.com/hardware/notebook-gpus/geforce-gtx-660m/performance

I would also consider this laptop because you can equip it with a 675m for within your price range.

Well then if he can wait those two days that should be a great option. Although the Eurocom I linked still has a more powerful GPU.
