Hi,
I finally got my hands on the Japanese import Pioneer CLD-R7G.
I have been comparing it to my HLD-X9 for color smear.
My favorite scene to compare, when using my analog Proscan tv set, is
disc one from the Star Wars Special Edition box set. The CLV disc one,
during the scene where Leah bends over and puts a disc into R2D2.
On Pioneer CLD D703/704/Elite 79/Elite 99, her hand smears, badly,
right across the screen.
No smearing on the R7G during this scene. In fact, I just got finished
double checking the scene on my X9. The non-smear factor seems identical
to me.
So, to my reckoning, we can add the CLD-R7G to the list of
non-smearing CLV players for analog tv sets.
(As I noted in an earlier post, the D704 smear issue disappears when
that player is hooked to my digital HD Philips CRT tube set.)
