Please recommend a good HDTV for gaming (around $800 at most)

The thing has me spoiled a bit, with its 4ms response time and 240hz. The television is one of the fastest, most responsive I have seen. Exactly what you need when you are playing games. There is also no discernible lag when playing games.

Question is, does anyone have any recommendations on a good, relatively affordable television I could trade up for? I like the one I have now, but I want something with a bit deeper blacks.

Something in the 42 - 47" range would be ideal, but I really want something as responsive as the one I have now, which is a big concern for me. Again, there really is no indication of ghosting or lag with this set, which, if present, would ruin the experience when playing games.

So, yes, if you could give me some recommendations, that would be great.

I have been doing a fair bit of price checking since I first posted this, and I have come across three promising looking televisions in my current price range. I might decide to wait a while, save a bit more, and then purchase. But, as I said, these looking pretty good to me at the moment.

Anyone have any first hand experience with any of these, or can you tell me which of the bunch, considering my concerns listed above, would be my best bet? Are they worth going for?

Think I found the one I am interested in. It's relatively inexpensive (around what I paid three years ago for the one I am using now) and is essentially just an updated version of the one I have now.

It's pretty much exactly what I was looking for.
This makes me happy.

What does 4ms time mean? I have a 60 INCH Vizio Smart LED Im not sure what the MS on it is and would appreciate if you told me that it does

It is the rate at which the image refreshes. The faster the image refreshes, the better, being that a slow refresh time can leave weird imaging on screen known as 'ghosting', where the image will trail behind a bit when fast movement is taking place on screen.

Can't seem to find anyting that doesn't have internet built in, or more than 120hz.

Spent 2 days going over reviews nothing..... nada. Just a lot of crap that blurs after digging through reviews.

I'd like to go less than 1000 and i was hoping for at least a 50", no interent options.

I'd be ok if it's a solid 47" that would kick ass gaming. PC that is, i want to hook it up to my gaming rig.

Any tips?

Should suit your needs. There are larger versions of it, but the price, from what I've seen, raises dramatically once you go over 47". This one seems to retail around a thousand or so, but I have seen new sets sitting around $800. Really good deal even at a grand, if you ask me. The specs are listed on the link I left, just scroll down.

It's hard to find televisions without built-in internet anymore, but it is not really reflective in the price, considering it is becoming standard.

Hey Keitz, ya, i saw that, it's 2011 model, and they don't do the SPS style, the newer version is 240, and i saw some reviews that it ghosted.

Trying to make the samsungs work, but i'm still digging to see if i can get it for a decent price.

I was going to hit costco up in next few days and take a look at the plasmas, i know they'll work, there much thinner now, and there is a guy there that is supposoudly a big gamer, he went to the CES over the weekend in vegas, he should be back, going to run all the models by him and figure out what the deal is.

Vizio doesn't seem to make the 480hz ones anymore, quite a shame.

Wasn't aware of that. Might need to look a bit more into the sets.

That said, funnily enough, I have decided to take that money I was going to put towards a new television and put it towards a nice monitor, save the rest, and start saving towards a gaming rig.

Should have the cash I need in about six weeks or so.

in general most lcd screens should have similar contrast levels and blacks will always appear as a really dark grey. if you want better contrast then plasma is the only way to go however they come with their own sleugh of issues.

i know 120hz tvs only accept a 60hz input, i am not sure about 240hz but i think the same holds true. what this means is that the tv fakes in the other frames which can result in lag on screen when playing games. as far as the response time is concerned, lower is better of course but a few ms difference is not noticible.

vizio in general is a low end brand. a good step up would be a sony, samsung or lg in that order
