PocketPC hangs

How do I backup my PocketPC 2002 with preference and applications so that I
can restore the device with applications, preference etc on active sync?

Recently my pocketPC 2002 did a hard reset as some applications hanged the
device. I can restore the contact and calendar, but had to reinstall all the
applications. This does not happen with Palm, so looking for a solution
similar to the Palm.

Hi,

Not very familiar with Palm devices but one option would be to use
ActiveSync backup. You can check out the following site for steps:

http://www.cewindows.net/faqs/activesync/backup.htm

Alternate solutions are available via third party software but then these
are a lot quicker. Amongst them Sprite Backup for Pocket PC is pretty
popular.

It doesn't happen on the Palm?
You want a solution similar to the Palm?

What solution do you use (on a Palm) for something you say doesn't happen?

This isn't your palm ... but a lean mean working machine. BACKUP the stupid
ppc using active sync. It seems as though the search doesn't work for this
NG ... the same questions are asked and answered each week.

My iPaq can do a complete backup with the built in software. The backup
file can be copied with active sync and/or can be stored on the iPAQ itself
in the free "ROM" region. That area survives a hard reset.

Hey! I guess it does. I just installed it an hour ago so I'll forgive
myself for missing it. Not sure if I would want to download to download to
many headers on this connection though.

This is what happen. My XDA just decided to hang-no signal and screen
continues to blink draining the battery. Soft reset did not work and only
hard reset will work. But that means losing all the data.

I did get back all the contact and calendar on sync. But for the app, I had
to reinstall them and set all the preferences all over again. Just thought
there must be a better solution out there.

Thanks in advance for all your suggestion.

Next time you might try removing the battery for a moment and then
re-inserting it. That might force a soft reset and not kill your memory.
Since you seem to be forced to do a hard reset anyhow it's worth trying.
