Hi all! I have a Polk PSW50 home stereo subwoofer and the speaker vibrates to the point of making a discernible buzzing (and annoying) sound. When I touch the lower portion of the speaker gently, the vibration stops. Or when I lay the speaker on its side it stops. I've tried sticking my hand up into the cavity of the speaker, moving the insulation around etc..Anyone have a clue on how to fix this?

Solution

Unfortunately the voice coil is part of the speaker, the repair is to get a new speaker. If you're handy you can likely replace just the speaker yourself, its not hard. Its just a matter of getting the matching sub, you can contact Polk and see if they will sell you one, otherwise try to match its wattage and impedance (should be printed on the magnet) from a place like MCM Electronics ow www.parts-express.com
I haven't personally, but I bought it used form someone...Is a blown voice coil easily repaired? Thanks!
