Hi there, I'm doing a research paper on the Target data breach and how other companies can learn from it and I was wondering if anyone knows what antivirus software is commonly used on POS (Point-of-Sale) Systems.

POS and ATMs were converted top Microsoft OSes usually a locked down customized front UI on each, because of the integration of the backend office (Sales manager on a Windows PC using Windows SQL App to watch sales in a district) into the backend systems, and across to the operations area. Having Windows Embedded OS was initially the suggestion to have easier cross platform from front system to back office, but then multiple functions were added to POS systems (touch screen, the desire for 'brand specific' unique customized interfaces, etc.) that the costs were too high to continue with unix systems when offered the advantages a Windows OS based platform was more cost effective with the overall plan.

Look up ATM XP and that will give you into some insight as well, as ATMs used to be OS/2 based but then switched out to Windows as well now are facing a critical issue with XP no longer supported.

By the by, your question is incorrect, there isn't a "antivirus" software like your thinking is done on your PC your using. You need to branch yourself into Intrusion Detection Systems, if you did even a little research you know that the 'flaw' to why this occurred was NOT technical but human. Antivirus Systems or IDS does not stop a situation like this, it was a issue of the human element again failing. Do the research.
