I am needing to replace the DC Power Jack on my MSI.

Here she is:
http://www.msi.com/support/nb/GX780
or
http://www.msimobile.com/level3_productpage.aspx?id=312

This is the jack I bought:
http://www.laptopjacks.com/view-part-msi-laptop-dc-power-jack-ms51525.html

Just wondering if it is the right one, as far as i can tell it is.... the gx780 and gt780 are pretty much the same thing.... even the manual I have for disassembly is titled: GT780(R)/GX780(R) (MS-1761 Disassembly Guide). I am really hoping you all can help me out, thank you in advance!

Hello again Shon Nutting

In that case, I would suggest you to have one-to-one word with any technician from the vendor's authorized service center. You can also contact the customer support call center via phone. You can find the contact numbers as per your region here.

The bottom line is, please do not use the jack of different model without consulting any professional and authorized service technician.

Hope this helps. :)
Hello Shon Nutting

I would suggest not to get confused with the models of the laptops mentioned on the Disssembly Guide. Many guides mention multiple models in order make the readers understand that there is a common process (that is described in the guide) to dissemble all the given models. Vendors do this to eliminate the pain of preparing a separate guide with the same content for each model.

It is advisable that you check the list of compatible models on the product's cover or any descriptive manual that may be shipped along with it.

In your case, the power jack that you purchased supports GT780(R) and GT780 models but nowhere in the list the GX780 model (which is your laptop) is mentioned, at least not on the web page that you shared.

I would suggest you to return the power jack and buy the one that lists the exact model number of your laptop in its compatibility list. This would prevent any future damages or inconsistencies to your device.

Hope the suggestion helps. Good Luck!!

So after a lot of research the MSI GX780 and the MSI GT780 are the exact same PC, only difference is the video card.... they were both sold at the same time, just that the gx780 have the better gpu... all parts that are compatible with the gt780 are also compatible with the gx680... that was from tech support.

Hello Shon Nutting

That sounds perfect. I think it is now safe to go ahead and replace the jack.

Good Luck!! :)
