Power Surges

Hi guys,

My mother just called to tell me that a lightning strike fried her 26" LCD TV. I asked her what surge protector she was using and she said it is rated 500 Joules.

What rating should she be going for considering they are prone to lightning around their house?

Also any good deals on 26" LCD TV's out there?

There really is no rating for a lightning strike which is millions of joules. there are lightning protectors for antennas, and lightning protectors for the commercial power company, but still these do very little to protect from a direct hit.
Home surge protectors, which do very little good, are meant to protect against small power surges. Most of them don't work at all, and are a silly waste of money.
