Presario F700 downgrade from vista to xp

Looking to downgrade my friends f700 from vista to xp just upgraded her ram but vista is virus ridden and runs slow.

I have the cd for xp in the computer but it won't let me wipe the os and use this one.

Vista is no more virus-ridden than XP or 7.

How are you trying to install XP? Through Windows?

I have the cd and trying to install from cd. Xp may be as virus ridden but it doesn't take as much ram to operate.

Turned off the comp went to boot order and vista was my option. Read a couple of other threads with same issue but was unable to find one with a solution.
