Problems with playing RMVB files

I have problems with playing rmvb files
This happened two to four days ago
before that it was all fine
I have the Divx 7 codec installed
and I have tried realplayer and kmplayer
they all come up with the same problem
after opening the video file the computer stops
responding for 3~5 seconds then I can move the mouse for
a brief second and then it freezes again and keeps repeating
this until I close the program

I have a Nvidia GTS250 driver ver. 190.62

any ideas?
