programmes to create/edit .gif

I want to create and edit gifs, could someone please recommend me free programs to do this with.

I would also like the programs to be able to compress the files.

I'm a bit of a newbie if you haven't guessed already.

GIMP or Paint.net can do what you are asking for.

However, you will need to do some googling around and watch some youtube videos on how to use the program to accomplish what you are asking for.

We can not train you on how to use those programs. Only point you in the right direction.

Thanks mate, GIMP looks great, I'm a bit of a noob, but not that bad and there are tutorials on the website.

They are both great programs. I prefer paint.net just because I like the style better and think it is a little easier to work with. But GIMP is great also.
