Overkill.

That is just totally ridiculous. I have 1 6970 and there's not a game I can't max. Some people are just arrogant, lol. When I go 6970x2 on black friday, I will be getting 60fps on any game on the market maxed out. Why would you want better than that?

What have you got to prove? How foolish you are for not waiting? It will be years before that kind of power is needed, especially with developers having a bad case of Consolitis. By the time it actually IS needed the 6950/70 will be MUCH cheaper. Wait, or you are a fool.

Also, you can only unlock to 6970 on the older 6950s. You can't do it on the new ones.

Quad means four right!?

You question is valid, sorry for the others but be ready for the comments. Other then excess do you NEED 4 cards!!?

PcGamer is correct, there are no more cards manufactured that can be flashed like the old ones.

I say stick with the dual 580's if you must.

Foolish? Naw. Just have money to spend. I have nothing to prove. I just want a future proofed system. But, apparently that's foolish. :sarcastic:

If you have money to spend then get a MARS II.

As everyone else said theirs no need for that much gaming horsepower.A 6950 crossfire is plenty to max out everything now and possibly even 2 years into the future. The only reason I see where a quad 6950 crossfire is needed would be something like Eyefinity. That type of setup would definitly warrant that much GPU power.

Mars II would put my $200 off my 2.8k budget. Plus Newegg only has combo's for it.

I've heard a lot of Sapphire cards being flashed. In fact if I hear anything about flashing a 6950 it's usually a Sapphire card.

Just go with a 6950 crossfire.Even if you don't use the extra VRAM it's always good to have it.
