Question about headset with mic and a single 3.5mm plug

So I have the HyperX Cloud II which was given to me as a gift and it has a single 3.5mm plug for both the audio and the mic, and I was thinking on getting this sound card today:

My question is, I want to use a blue snowball microphone I already have, and don't really care about the microphone on the HyperX, can I just connect the HyperX without a splitter on the sound card? will there be any negative effects audio quality wise if I don't use a splitter?

you may or may not have issues. i would suggest using the 4pole to 3pole splitter and just not using the microphone portion.
