Question about speaker ohm impedance for ONKYO amplifier

Hi, I have a pair of jvc bookshelf speakers which both have a sticker on back that says a single one of the speakers is 4 ohms. I was just wondering if two 4 ohm speakers plugged into the L and R plugs on the back of amplifier would equal 8 ohms or would it still be 4 ohms? just because there is a speaker impedance setting on amplifier which you can choose from either 4 or 6 ohms. If someone could clear this up for me it would be much appreciated.

Speakers are run in parallel so the impedance is not added. If they were run in serial they would be added.

oh right so does that just mean i should choose 4 ohms on my amp?

4 ohms each speaker but the amplifier doesn't add up to say it is 1 8 ohms speaker

it handles each speaker independent so each ohm values affect each output, unless you mix up one 4 and one 6 or one 8ohms speaker

which most amplifiers doesn't like and usually gives problems with volume levels
