hey guys im purchasing a laptop I'd like to spend 850-950 I've looked everywhere so far HP looks like my best bet.
I'm going to be playing some games on this laptop I'm looking at the dv5t from HP
I was thinking adding in a 9600m gt.. the total comes to 850 bucks without any addons.

This is a two part question. I'd like to know if someone explain what's the difference with these?
I want a pretty good resolution but i'd like to know if this is worth it?

$850 with a 9600mGT? really? What model is this?

I would choose:
the 1680x1050 non-designer screen (because the style is not ever worth an increase in $50)

and

the T5800, which will bring large increases over the Pentium dual core, but shaves off a lot of money. I use a 2.1GHz T8100 in my notebook, and it plows through games. Games with that resolution tend to be GPU limited anyway. What games will you be playing?

wow. the P8600 is 75$ more than p8400. Those are expensive CPU upgrades. I believe the lenovo I ordered was $21 more for a p8600 from p8400.

As stated previously, the Lenovo Y series and the HP dv series are very similarly spec'd, but you'll probably pay more for the Lenovo, unless you go for a bunch of HP "upgrades"-- that is HP is lowballing base configs that no one of a gaming bent would really want (Pentium Dual Core, anyone?).
