Random freezes on Sony Vaio laptop

My brand new (>3 weeks old) Sony Vaio laptop is freezing randomly on average at least once a day. I have run a virus scan and found nothing and the only thing odd i have noticed is one right before it froze i saw disk activity was at 100 percent, also the strange part is sometimes i can move my cursor but nothing will respond nor will the keyboard shortcuts thanks

Run a hard drive test in DOS... HIRENS BOOT CD etc, it sounds like a failing hard drive... do NOT do this if you have an SSD...

Operating system does NOT matter.... as you download Hirens then write it to disc and BOOT from the disc....BEFORE windows...

meh i have a extended warinty since i use a it a ton for school, so i will just take it into microcenter, its vactions week next week so might as well since if it is a problem they will just fix it
