Recommend a new home theatre system that is 5.1 surround sound (Wii U and PS4 Slim)
Hi,

I recently found my old surround sound system (Samsung HT-C450 5.1 ch - 500W) and tried to hook it up to my Wii U and PS4 Slim. I then realised that neither systems had a optical audio output. Also my TV (LG 26CS460) has no audio outputs at all, so I can't even go from my consoles to the TV and then to the surround sound.

It looks like my cheapest option is to just get a new home theatre system that accepts a HDMI input. This also needs to be LPCM compatible since the Wii U doesn't encode in Dolby or DTS.

My questions are:
1. Is replacing my home theatre system the cheapest option?
2. If the answer to question 2 is yes, then can anyone recommend a reasonably priced system that is 5.1 surround sound but is also compatible with LPCM?
3. Is it possible to keep my speakers from the Samsung system and just get a new receiver? (reason is to save money)

Cheapest solution is to get an HDMI input selector with audio extraction like this one.

It will provide an optical output to get audio to your HTS.

Thanks for the link. I've read that to get surround sound on the Wii U it needs to transfer via HDMI cable so I don't think that will work. (source: http/www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=500865). I'm hoping to get a ONKYO TX-SR508 second hand and then plug in the samsung speakers to that. The speakers have an impedance of 3 ohms while the receiver can go to 4ohms so it should be okay (from what I've read).
