We have a Panasonic surround system (SAHT280) hooked up & everything is functioning, but the unit itself feels very hot. We've looked in the book, but cannot find anything about the temperature at which the fan comes on. Can anyone shed some light on what the temperature range is when it's on, when the fan kicks in, what temperatures are safe, etc? Thanks.

Very hot would be so hot that you could not keep you hand on the top of the unit. If the fan is not coming on and the unit does not go into protection I would not worry about it.
If the receiver is in a confined space it would not hurt to make sure it gets good air flow. An external fan could be used but It suspect you are OK.
