Recording a band with Tascam US-122

Anyone had any luck recording a band using this device? If so, could
you elaborate on the process and the end result? I am trying to decide
the best way to accomplish this being that the tascam only has 2
channels. We have a full PA with a 16 channel mixer so I am not sure
exactly how to get this done. I am thinking we just run thru a song and
only have the drums going thru the mixer so we get them recorded and
then record the rest.
Your thoughts?

I haven't used it, but I have recorded plenty of bands live to 2-track.

What sort of room do you have? What kind of band is it? Are there vocals?
Is the band pretty much balanced within itself?

Unless you isolate the drummer from the rest of the band, you'll get
everything through the drum mics if you're all playing together.

I'd suggest that you use it for what it is - a two-channel interface.
Set up a pair of mics that adequately cover the band and record that.
Altenately, mix the full band through your mixer and record that mix.
But you'll probably get decent results faster if you record everyone
playing together and with the natural balance. If someone makes a
mistake that you can't live with, you do it again.

You might want to leave out the instrumental solos and vocals and
record them on successive passes. But given your newbie status, it's
probably best to record the basic rhythm tracks with everyone playing
together.

Hey thanks for the response! Great idea to just do rhythm tracks first
all together. then I can add more tracks for vocals and solos! I will
give it a try!
