Recording after cable box

Hi All, Would like to know if it is possible to record somehow after the cable box. I had things on the cable/recorder box I would like to save. Since it goes to an AV receiver, then TV it would seem possible. I am not trying to do anything illegal, if laws exist, I am unaware. I just had to return a cable box an lost all my football games. Any help appreciated.

You won't be able to record the HDMI output of the cable box but the non HD outputs (yellow for composite video, R & W for audio could be played back and recorded by a DVD recorder or a video capture card on a computer.
