Reducing cable bill

If I get one of those digital converter boxes you had to get when the digital conversion happened, would I be able to use my optimum cable tv in my bedroom with a set top box? There is an active cable in there

no. you need a cable box for you cable. digital converter box is just for over the air broadcast

If the bedroom TV has a QAM digital tuner built in you can try connecting the cable from the wall to the TV, set it to QAM or cable, and run a channel scan. Any unencrypted channels will be watchable. There may not be any. Nothing to loose by trying.
