I have a couple Marantz SP1200's that need refoaming around the woofers. I have already scraped it down off the cone and the frame, but was wondering if I need to cut the dust cap out and put the voice coil shims in it to keep it spaced. I would like to avoid this, but will do it to preform a proper repair.

I managed to get it done. The foam was completely gone from these so no crazy glue, plus the foam was rotting from a flood they survived. I got my surrounds from http://www.simplyspeakers.com/2doityourself.htm

They provided instructions and everything to do the repair. Speakers sound great now and bass hits hard now. If anyone needs future help with redoing the foam surrounds, I will be happy to assist
