Hello, I was wondering which one of these 2 laptops to buy, both are refurbished. One has a 17.3 inch 1080p 75hz display, 980m, 24gb ram, i7 4710hq and a 256gb SSD. Also it's an asus
The other one is an msi 15.6 1080p display with a gtx 1060, i7 6700HQ, 16GB ram and 128gb SSD.

I need your opinions on which one to buy, which one has better performance?

Thank you in advance.

In terms of gaming performance the GTX 1060 will provide better performance than the GTX 980m. Additionally, the i7-6700HQ will perform a bit better than the i7-4710HQ. However, Intel has not really made great strides in improving CPU performance with newer generation CPU; basically a 3% - 5% improvement with each generation. Instead, they focused on incorporating some additional features (such as security protocols useful to IT departments) and reducing power consumption.

Sounds good, but the asus has 24gb or ram while the msi has only 16. Bigger display, more SSD space, and the 980m has the same performance as a 1060. and it's 100 dollars cheaper than the msi. So idk I might get the asus,

The Asus has DDR3 ram on it while the latter has DDR4. We also don't know the specs's of the ram(i.e the frequency and timings) and it also leads me to ask what sort of apps your work load will comprise of...? Performance can be had or lost in maybe different scenarios. Which scenario are we looking at? Rendering/AutoCAD or gaming?

If you came here to hear out your opinion, then the thread wasn't necessary. If you want an answer pertaining to what you asked...well like I said get the unit that is the latest and greatest. FYI, the Asus is based off a 4th gen Intel platform while the MSI unit is based on the 6th Gen Intel platform. If you want to drop 100USD for a 2 gen prior unit be our guest but you won't make much millage with a now obsolete platform.

The most demanding games I will be playing are doom and fallout 4, other than that it's light gaming like dead island deus ex hr, fallout 3/NV payday 2 etc. I will also be rendering lots of audio and a bit of 4k video
