Reinstall procedure not working

I want to sell my Macbook Pro and have followed the steps outlined to restore to Factory Settings. It does download OSX and reinstall but my user account still exists and my hard drive is never reformatted. What else is needed to get it into a state for resale?

p.s. I do wonder if possibly the fact that I have encrypted my hard drive might be a contributing factor.

I know nothing about OSX, but that encryption could be a problem. Can you give the encryptoin password to the buyer?

There should be tools working on OSX to erase completely your hard disk. Then you can reinstall the OS.
