Remove powerblock cables from motherboard before re-flow

Hi Folks,

I have a dead GPU on the motherboard of my Toshiba qosmio G30. It's a good laptop, if very long in the tooth, and I figure that I may as well try and reflow it in the oven. It's that or the motherboard gets binned.

Taken it all apart as shown in this link : http://www.irisvista.com/tech/laptops/Toshiba-Qosmio-G35/disassemble-laptop-1.htm

So last thing I wanted to do is to remove the power block cables. (shown in the top left of the last slide in the link above) before it goes in the oven.

The thing is THERE IS NO TAB ON THE BLOCK. It seems like the whole unit is just soldered onto to motherboard. I have tried wedging a flat head screwdriver under and easing it up using a fair amount of force and no joy. Any more force and I will definitely start breaking things.

BTW I do not want to get into ovens versus heat guns v temporary fix etc etc etc. I'm gonna try this as a last ditch effort to get some extra time with my laptop, be it weeks or a year, and thats if it works!

So has anybody got any ideas? Otherwise i'm gonna wrap that whole area in loads of layers of foil to try and keep the heat off. Gonna be tricky not to melt the wires though considering it will be in the oven for 8 mins at gas mark 6!

I have better photo's but not sure how to attach them to this thread.

Any revelations very gladly received
Kieron

Wrap it in foil, or aluminum tape is what I've used to cover the important parts. Also, getting some flux under the GPU will help. In the chance you actually do hit reflow temps, you want the flux to help the balls form and stay in place and not touch each other.
