Replace laptop screen

Hi, to answer your question about whether you need a new video cable, it depends on your laptop. Is your graphics chip supports FHD resolution? Is the video cable you have in your laptop supports odd and even data? It all depends on the make and model of your laptop.

If the new screen doesn't have a picture, it's not compatible, if it was and you need a new cable, you should see half of the information on the screen. Asus may have just connected to the ribbon cable only one channel, because the laptop will never use a FHD screen. This is the reason I can tell if it's compatible for a FHD, is to look at the schematics for the traces connected to the LVDS connector.
